Few resort courses in America carry the competitive weight of the Palmer course at PGA National. Home to the Honda Classic for decades, this is where tour professionals routinely struggle down the stretch, and the reason is no mystery: the closing stretch known as "The Bear Trap" — holes 15, 16, and 17 — is among the most feared finishing runs in professional golf. Water, wind, and narrow margins combine to shred scorecards and reputations in equal measure. Arnold Palmer redesigned the course in 1990, sharpening its teeth considerably.
Palm Beach Gardens was essentially built around PGA National, and the resort remains the centerpiece of a golf community that takes the game seriously. South Florida's subtropical climate means play is possible year-round, though the summer humidity is no small consideration, and the trade winds off the Atlantic add an unpredictable layer to shot-making that pure yardage never captures.
For resort guests, the Palmer is the marquee experience — not a course that flatters the average player, but one that delivers an honest measure of your game against a genuine championship test.
