Bernardus Golf

Bernardus Golf opened in 2009 on a former agricultural estate in the Brabantse Wal and Loonse en Drunense Duinen region, designed by Kyle Phillips — the American architect best known for Kingsbarns in Scotland. Phillips brought the same bold, links-influenced philosophy to this inland Dutch landscape, sculpting fairways, dunes, and fescue-lined corridors from flat farmland in a way that feels both invented and inevitable. The course quickly earned a reputation as one of the finest modern designs in continental Europe and has appeared consistently near the top of Dutch and European course rankings since opening.

The setting is the real surprise. North Brabant's sandy soils and scattered pine and heathland give Phillips something genuinely rare in the Low Countries: terrain with movement and texture. The course plays through open heathland and along manufactured but convincing dunescapes, with firm, fast conditions when the weather cooperates.

Bernardus is a private members' club, so access for visitors is managed, but it rewards the effort of an invitation or a reciprocal arrangement. It plays long and demands creativity off the tee — this is a course that respects proper shot-making over brute force.
