Few stretches of California coastline have produced as much great golf as the Monterey Peninsula, and Monterey Peninsula Country Club's Shore Course stands among the finest examples of why. Designed by Seth Raynor and opened in 1926, then thoughtfully restored and routed closer to the Pacific by Robert Trent Jones Jr. in the 1960s, the course occupies a dramatic band of rocky coastline just south of Pebble Beach Golf Links. Its holes wind through ice plant, Monterey cypress, and seaside scrub, with several playing directly along the bluffs above Stillwater Cove and the open Pacific.
The Shore Course has served as a USGA championship venue on multiple occasions and is routinely ranked among the top 20 courses in the United States. Its combination of Raynor's strategic template holes — redan par-3s, double plateau greens — with the raw elemental drama of the California coast gives it a character that is both intellectually demanding and visually overwhelming.
Membership here is deeply exclusive, placing it firmly in the conversation with Cypress Point and Spyglass Hill as the defining private golf experiences the peninsula offers.
