Golf and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation come together at Lake of Isles, the resort complex anchored to the broader Foxwoods Resort Casino campus in southeastern Connecticut. The South course — the more demanding of the 2 layouts on the property — was designed by Rees Jones and opened in 2005, earning a reputation as one of the stronger resort tests in New England. Jones, whose work reshaping major championship venues earned him the nickname "the Open Doctor," brought that same instinct for strategic challenge to the Connecticut woodlands here.
The terrain is classic northeastern hardwood country: rolling, forested, and framed by the quiet lakes and wetlands that give the property its name. Fairways move through corridors of mature trees, and water comes into play on a meaningful number of holes, rewarding accurate shot-making over raw power.
As a resort course tied to one of the largest casino complexes in the country, Lake of Isles South draws a broad mix of visitors alongside serious golfers making the trip specifically for the golf — a combination that keeps the atmosphere lively without losing competitive credibility.
