Stonetree Golf Club has built a following among Central Texas golfers as one of the more serious public-access tests in the Killeen–Fort Hood corridor. The course plays through terrain typical of this part of the Hill Country fringe — rolling topography, native grasses, and the kind of exposed, sun-baked fairways that reward local knowledge and punish dehydration in equal measure. The name itself hints at the landscape: this is ranch-country Texas, where limestone breaks through the soil and live oaks punctuate the horizon.
Killeen sits in Bell County, about an hour north of Austin, and the local golf scene is shaped in large part by the military community surrounding Fort Hood — one of the largest Army installations in the world. That produces a golfer base that tends to be competitive, unpretentious, and always looking for a legitimate challenge at a fair price.
A par 72 layout gives the course room to stretch through its longer holes while offering shorter, more precise tests in between — a structure that keeps the round interesting across all 18 holes and rewards players who can manage their game from tee to green.
