Forest City is one of the most unusual golf destinations in Southeast Asia — a course built on entirely reclaimed land as the centrepiece of a vast, China-backed mixed-use development stretching across artificial islands in the Strait of Johor. The project, developed by Country Garden Pacificview, was conceived on a near-utopian scale, and the golf course reflects that ambition: a lush, manicured layout designed to impress, sitting within a master-planned environment unlike anything else in Malaysian golf. The course was designed by IMG, and the broader Forest City Golf Hotel complex has positioned itself as a regional destination for visiting players, particularly those crossing from Singapore just a few kilometres away.

Gelang Patah sits at the southwestern tip of Johor, directly across from Singapore's Woodlands, making it genuinely one of the most accessible international golf experiences for players based in the city-state. The Causeway and Second Link bring this stretch of Johor within easy reach, and it draws a steady flow of Singaporean golfers chasing more space and lower green fees than the island offers.
