Yuma sits at one of the most extreme intersections of climate and landscape in the American Southwest — bracketed by the Sonoran Desert, the Colorado River corridor, and the agricultural flatlands that stretch toward the Mexican border. It is one of the sunniest cities on earth, logging well over 300 days of sunlight annually, which means golf here is a year-round pursuit but demands an early tee time from late spring onward, when afternoon temperatures routinely push past 110 degrees.
Mesa Del Sol is a public-access desert course playing to par 72 across that characteristically open, sun-baked terrain. Desert layouts like this one trade the lush fairway corridors of parkland golf for something starker and more demanding — tight landing zones, native scrub and sand that penalize the wayward shot without mercy, and a visual drama that comes from wide sky and rugged desert floor rather than elevation change.
For the traveling golfer, Yuma is an underrated winter destination. Snowbirds and Arizona regulars have long known that the region offers reliable, affordable golf when most of the country is frozen — and Mesa Del Sol sits squarely in that tradition.
