Few places in Irish golf carry the raw, wind-scoured drama of Enniscrone, a links settlement on the Atlantic edge of County Sligo where Killala Bay meets the wild northwest coast. The Dunes is the newer of Enniscrone Golf Club's 2 layouts, built to complement the celebrated main championship links that has drawn golfers to this corner of Ireland for over a century. While the main course winds through towering sandhills that rank among the most dramatic in the country, The Dunes offers a more accessible but still authentically linksland experience on the same extraordinary stretch of coastline.
County Sligo is serious golf territory — the championship links at Enniscrone, Rosses Point, and Strandhill sit within a short drive of each other, making this one of the finest links clusters on the island. The terrain here is shaped by Atlantic weather and ancient dune systems, and no round feels quite the same twice once the wind shifts off the bay.
A par 73 suits the natural rhythms of links design, where routing around dune ridges and natural hollows often demands an extra par 5 or a short par 4 that plays as a genuine strategic test. The Dunes rewards course management over power, and the surrounding landscape does the rest.
