Rancho Santa Fe is one of Southern California's most storied enclaves — a planned community of eucalyptus-lined roads and Spanish-Colonial estates originally developed by the Santa Fe Railway in the 1920s. Del Mar Country Club sits comfortably within that tradition of understated, old-money exclusivity, offering members a private retreat in one of the wealthiest zip codes in the United States. The surrounding landscape is quintessentially inland San Diego County: rolling chaparral hills, coastal sage, and a climate mild enough to play year-round without much compromise.
The course itself plays to a full par 72 across terrain that rewards patience and course management over raw power. San Diego County's private club scene is genuinely competitive — Torrey Pines, Aviara, and the Farms all draw comparisons — so clubs in this corridor tend to maintain high conditioning standards to satisfy discerning memberships. Del Mar Country Club occupies the quieter, more residential end of that spectrum rather than the tournament-spotlight end.
