Fort Leonard Wood has been one of the U.S. Army's major training installations since World War II, and like many large military bases, it supports a full recreational infrastructure for soldiers and their families — including golf. Piney Valley Golf Course sits within that tradition, offering on-post play in the rugged Ozark highlands of south-central Missouri, a landscape defined by pine and hardwood forest, rocky creek hollows, and the kind of rolling terrain that tends to produce interesting golf without anyone having to engineer it.
The Ozarks give military courses in this region a character that purely flat-country posts simply can't match. Elevation changes, tree-lined corridors, and the natural contour of the land do much of the design work, and a par-72 layout here likely leans into that topography in ways that reward course management over raw power.
As an active-duty installation course, Piney Valley serves a community that cycles through constantly — making it both a local fixture for stationed personnel and an accessible stop for traveling military golfers passing through central Missouri.
