Jasper Park Lodge Golf Club

Few golf courses anywhere can claim a setting as cinematically grand as this one. Designed by Stanley Thompson and opened in 1925, Jasper Park Lodge Golf Club is widely regarded as one of the masterworks of Canadian golf architecture — Thompson's personal favorite among his own designs, by most accounts. The layout occupies a glacially carved valley in Jasper National Park, with the Colin Range, Pyramid Mountain, and the Athabasca River valley forming a backdrop that makes concentration on your scorecard an act of genuine willpower.

Thompson worked with the natural contours of the terrain rather than against them, producing flowing fairways, imaginative bunkering, and greens that reward careful reading. The course is famous for its wildlife — elk wander the fairways with complete indifference to tee times — and for holes like the par-3 9th, nicknamed "Cleopatra" for the distinctive shape of its green complex.

Attached to the iconic Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, this is resort golf at a rare elevation of ambition. The Canadian Rockies short season, roughly June through October, only sharpens the sense that a round here is something you earn.
