Few clubs in the New York metropolitan area carry the kind of quiet institutional weight that Wykagyl does. Founded in 1898, it stands among Westchester County's oldest and most respected private clubs, and its A.W. Tillinghast design — reworked over the decades but still bearing the hallmarks of one of American golf's great architects — gives it a pedigree that goes well beyond its suburban surroundings. Tillinghast, responsible for Winged Foot and Baltusrol among others, brought his characteristically demanding, thoughtful bunkering to a property whose rolling terrain suits that style naturally.
Wykagyl has hosted significant amateur and professional competition over the years, including LPGA Tour events, giving it a tournament history that most clubs its size never approach. New Rochelle sits on Long Island Sound in southern Westchester, close enough to Manhattan to attract serious golfers but far enough removed to feel like genuine country club territory.
This is a members' course with real history behind it — the kind of place where the golf conversation runs deep and the standards, on and off the course, remain high.
