Few private clubs in suburban Philadelphia carry the quiet prestige of Commonwealth National. Designed by Ron Forse and opened in the early 1990s, the course was crafted to work with the rolling, wooded terrain of Montgomery County rather than fight it — a philosophy that gives it a more intimate, naturalistic feel than many of its peers in the region. Forse, a Pennsylvania-based architect with deep roots in restoration and original design across the mid-Atlantic, brought a thoughtful approach to the routing that rewards strategic thinking over raw power.
Horsham sits in the heart of Montgomery County, one of the more golf-rich corridors in Pennsylvania, close enough to Philadelphia to draw a serious membership but far enough out to breathe. The land here is characteristically piedmont — gentle ridges, mature hardwoods, and the kind of seasonal color that makes autumn rounds genuinely memorable.
