Golfclub Weselerwald

Schermbeck sits in the lower Rhine region of North Rhine-Westphalia, a corner of Germany where flat agricultural land gradually gives way to the sandy heathland and mixed forest of the Hohe Mark — one of the largest contiguous woodland areas in the Ruhr's green belt. It is precisely this wooded setting that defines the Weselerwald course, which plays through mature stands of pine and deciduous trees in a landscape that feels surprisingly removed from the industrial heritage of the wider region.

The course takes its name from the Wesel Forest (Weselerwald), and its routing makes full use of the undulating terrain where sandy subsoils support firm, fast-draining fairways — a welcome contrast to the heavier clay conditions common elsewhere in the Westphalian lowlands. Tree-lined corridors demand accuracy off the tee, and errant shots are genuinely punished by the encroaching woodland rather than simply penalized by rough.

This is a members' club serving the communities between Wesel and the Ruhr conurbation, with a relaxed but serious golfing culture that is typical of well-established German Golfclubs. Visitors are generally welcome at quieter times, and the forested setting makes it a pleasant retreat regardless of how the round goes.
