Few golf courses along the Grand Strand carry a name as evocative as Glen Dornoch — a deliberate nod to the Scottish links tradition, set against the tidal marshes and Intracoastal Waterway that define this stretch of the South Carolina coast. Designed by Clyde Johnston and opened in 1995, the course earned a devoted following quickly, with Golf Digest ranking it among the best courses in the state not long after its debut. The waterway isn't mere scenery here; it shapes the wind, the mood, and several holes where a miscalculation over or around the water genuinely costs you.
Johnston routed the layout to move with the natural contours of the marsh and shoreline, giving it an openness and exposure that most Myrtle Beach resort courses simply don't have. Fescue-edged fairways, pot bunkers, and firm, fast conditions reward players who think their way around rather than just overpower it.
North Myrtle Beach sits at the quieter, less commercial end of the Grand Strand, and Glen Dornoch fits that personality — a serious golf experience without the spectacle, where the landscape does most of the talking.
