Ewing sits in the Sandhills fringe of north-central Nebraska, a stretch of the state where the land rolls in long, grass-covered waves and the sky dominates everything. It's ranching country, sparse and unhurried, and golf courses out here tend to reflect that — less manicured than courses closer to Omaha or Lincoln, but rooted deeply in their surroundings. The natural contours of the terrain do a lot of the work that architects elsewhere would have to manufacture.
Summerland Golf Club is an 18-hole layout serving a community that takes its golf seriously despite — or maybe because of — the isolation. Courses in this part of Nebraska tend to play firm and fast, shaped by warm summers and persistent winds that make even a comfortable par 72 feel like a negotiation rather than a formality. Distance matters less than trajectory and course management when the breeze picks up off the plains.
For visitors making the drive out to Holt County, the appeal is exactly what the region offers everywhere else: space, quiet, and a round of golf that feels nothing like the urban tracks most players spend their weekends on.
