Few private clubs in New Jersey carry the quiet prestige of Hollywood Golf Club. Founded in 1903, it ranks among the oldest layouts in the state and has long been a fixture in the conversation about the Shore's finest traditional clubs. The course was designed by Walter Travis, one of the great architect-players of the early 20th century, whose work here reflects his characteristic preference for subtlety over spectacle — precise bunkering, deceptive greens, and holes that reward thought as much as power.
Deal sits on the northern stretch of the Jersey Shore, a borough of handsome early-20th-century architecture and old-money restraint, removed from the honky-tonk of the Shore's busier towns. The land here is relatively flat, as is typical of coastal New Jersey, but Travis found ways to create genuine strategic interest and a routing that feels complete and unhurried.
Hollywood plays as a members' club in the truest sense — not a tournament showcase, but a course that earns its reputation through generations of loyal play and the kind of understated quality that doesn't need to announce itself.
