Heartland Crossing Golf Links sits in Camby, a small community on the southwestern fringe of Indianapolis, where the suburbs gradually give way to the flatter, open farmland that defines central Indiana's landscape. The "Links" in the name signals an architectural intention — fairways that move with the land, exposed lies, and conditions shaped more by wind and weather than by heavy tree cover, a refreshing contrast to the wooded parkland layouts that dominate much of the Midwest.
The Indianapolis metro golf scene is competitive and well-developed, serving a large population of serious recreational players. A public-access course in this market has to earn its rounds, and a links-style design offers something genuinely different from the region's standard offerings — open sightlines, firm-and-fast playing conditions when the weather cooperates, and the kind of round where a headwind can turn a manageable hole into a real problem.
Camby itself is unpretentious working-suburb Indiana, and a course here is almost certainly built for everyday players who want value and a fair test without a lot of fuss — golf as it should be.
