Hatchford Brook has been one of Birmingham's most accessible public courses for decades, sitting in the Sheldon area of the city's eastern edge — close enough to Birmingham Airport that you'll occasionally catch a plane crossing overhead mid-backswing. It's a municipal layout managed by Birmingham City Council, and it carries that democratic spirit well: a place where beginners find their feet, regulars play several times a week, and the game stays affordable for a city that has always taken its sport seriously.
The course runs through mature parkland, with established trees lining many of the fairways and giving it a more secluded feel than its urban surroundings might suggest. At par 70, it plays shorter than a championship test, which makes it well-suited to a wide range of abilities without ever feeling like a pushover — tree-lined corridors demand accuracy, and the ground conditions through a Midlands winter can add their own complications.
