Few courses in the Phoenix metro area carry a name as loaded with expectation as this one, and The Legend at Arrowhead largely delivers. Designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay and opened in 1986, the layout occupies the desert terrain of Glendale's Arrowhead Ranch community, where the Sonoran Desert's signature vegetation — saguaro cacti, creosote, and desert scrub — frames almost every hole. Palmer and Seay were prolific collaborators across the Sun Belt, and their work here reflects a thoughtful respect for the land: native desert waste areas come into play throughout, demanding accuracy off the tee while keeping the routing visually dramatic.
The course sits within a master-planned residential community in the northwest Valley, an area that grew rapidly through the late 1980s and 1990s. Arrowhead Ranch itself was one of the defining developments of that era, and The Legend served as its centerpiece amenity.
Playing desert golf here means contending with the firm, fast conditions the Phoenix climate produces — especially spring and fall, when the Valley is at its most inviting for visiting golfers.
