Golfclub Breisgau occupies a stretch of the Upper Rhine Plain near Herbolzheim, a small town in the heart of the Breisgau region of Baden-Württemberg. This is some of the most agriculturally rich flatland in Germany, hemmed in by the Black Forest to the east and the Alsatian hills across the Rhine to the west — a setting that trades dramatic elevation change for wide skies and a mild climate that makes the course playable well into autumn.
The club is a well-established private members' club serving the greater Freiburg golf community, drawing players from one of southwest Germany's most culturally vibrant cities just to the south. The flat Rhine valley terrain shapes the design philosophy here: strategy comes from precise placement rather than uphill heroics, with water features and mature tree lines defining corridors and demanding accurate iron play.
For visiting golfers, the Breisgau region itself is a considerable draw — Freiburg's cathedral, the Black Forest trails, and the Alsace wine routes are all within easy reach, making a round here a natural complement to a longer stay in one of Germany's most appealing corners.
