Fort Bliss is one of the largest military installations in the United States, sprawling across far west Texas and into New Mexico near the city of El Paso. The Chihuahuan Desert defines the landscape here — wide skies, rugged mountain backdrops, and an arid terrain that gives any round a genuinely distinctive character. Golf at elevation in the desert southwest tends to play differently than most golfers expect: the dry air adds distance, the sun is relentless, and late afternoon light transforms the surroundings into something almost cinematic.
Sunset Golf Course serves the Fort Bliss military community, offering active duty personnel, veterans, and their families an accessible place to play on a base that takes recreation seriously. The par-71 layout suggests some asymmetry in the routing — likely a mix of hole lengths that keeps the card interesting without following a purely conventional structure.
The name fits. Sunsets over the Franklin Mountains and the sprawling Chihuahuan basin are a legitimate local spectacle, and finishing a round here as the desert sky shifts through its colors is its own reward.
