Sugar Land sits in Fort Bend County just southwest of Houston, one of the fastest-growing corridors in Texas and a region where suburban golf has long thrived alongside the petrochemical wealth that built much of the area. The name "Trent/Jones" almost certainly nods to the Jones family dynasty of golf architecture — Robert Trent Jones Sr. and his sons Rees and Robert Trent Jones Jr. collectively shaped more American courses across the 20th century than perhaps any other design lineage — though without confirmation of which Jones is credited here, that connection remains suggestive rather than certain.
