Porthmadog Golf Club

Few settings in Welsh golf match the drama of Porthmadog's links, which occupies a narrow strip of duneland on the Glaslyn Estuary where the mountains of Snowdonia meet the sea. The course has been part of the local landscape since 1905, shaped over generations by the winds that funnel through this corner of northwest Wales with little warning and less mercy. What looks manageable on a calm morning can become a serious examination within the hour.

The town of Porthmadog itself carries a proud maritime and industrial history — the estuary was once busy with slate ships bound for the world — and the golf club reflects that same sense of character earned over time. The links sits close to the Llŷn Peninsula, one of Wales's most unspoiled stretches of coastline, with Cardigan Bay opening to the west and the Snowdonia peaks rising sharply inland.
