Golfpark De Purmer

Golfpark De Purmer occupies a genuinely unusual piece of Dutch geography — the reclaimed polder land of the Purmer, one of the great historic drainages of North Holland, lying just north of Amsterdam in the flat, open countryside around Purmerend. This is landscape shaped by centuries of hydraulic engineering: a former lake turned into farmland by windmill and dike, and now given over partly to golf. Playing here means playing on land that was once underwater, and the wide skies, long sightlines, and ever-present water hazards are a direct consequence of that history.

The course reflects the classic challenges of Dutch polder golf — water is everywhere, winds off the IJsselmeer can arrive from any direction and change the effective difficulty of holes dramatically, and the openness of the terrain means course management matters more than brute length. Trees are relatively sparse, leaving little shelter and lending the layout an exposed, links-adjacent feel despite being well inland.

Purmerend itself is a commuter town with a compact historic centre, and the course serves both the local golfing community and players making the short trip from Amsterdam. It functions as a genuine club facility with a welcoming membership culture common to Dutch golf associations.
