Redstone Arsenal occupies a vast stretch of land along the Tennessee River just east of Huntsville, and the golf available here comes with a setting unlike anything a civilian course can offer. The Patriot Course serves the military community at one of the Army's most storied installations — a place whose history runs from World War II ordnance manufacturing through the Space Race and into the present day as a hub of defense and aerospace work. Playing here carries a particular sense of place that has nothing to do with what's on the scorecard.
Huntsville sits in the foothills of the Appalachians, and the terrain in this part of northern Alabama offers genuine topographic variety — rolling land, mature hardwoods, and a climate that allows golf nearly year-round, with mild winters giving way to warm, humid summers when afternoon thunderstorms are part of the calculus on any back nine.
Access to Redstone's course is generally restricted to active-duty military, retirees, Department of Defense civilians, and their guests, which keeps the pace relaxed and the atmosphere rooted in the close-knit culture of post life.
