Few golf courses share their name with the ancient Mesoamerican ballgame played on these very grounds for millennia. Pok Ta Pok sits on a narrow island strip in Cancún's Hotel Zone, and the name is no accident — the course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and opened in the 1970s as Cancún itself was being built, making it one of the foundational pieces of the resort destination's early identity. Ruins of actual Maya structures are visible from several holes, giving the round a sense of place that no amount of manicured fairway could manufacture on its own.
