Arrowhead Pointe Golf Club sits on the shores of Lake Russell in the Georgia Piedmont, a reservoir carved out of the Savannah River watershed near Elberton — the self-proclaimed "Granite Capital of the World." The course was designed by Denis Griffiths and opened in the late 1990s, developed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as part of its recreational mandate for Lake Russell. That unusual origin gives the property a distinctive character: sweeping Corps-managed shoreline, minimal residential development, and a sense of open, unspoiled landscape that private resort courses rarely achieve.
Water defines the experience here in a way that goes well beyond the occasional pond. Multiple holes run directly along or toward the lake, and the elevation changes through the Georgia hardwood and pine corridors create genuinely dramatic vistas for a course this far inland. It rewards shot-making intelligence as much as raw power.
Elberton sits in a quiet corner of northeast Georgia, roughly equidistant from Athens and Greenville, South Carolina. The region doesn't draw golf destination traffic the way the coast does, which makes Arrowhead Pointe feel like a genuine discovery — a full-scale, well-regarded layout in a setting most visiting golfers never think to seek out.
