Schroon Lake sits in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York, a region defined by its glacially carved lakes, dense forests of birch and pine, and rolling terrain that rises and falls without apology. The town itself is a classic Adirondack summer destination — quiet, unhurried, and proud of it — and the municipal golf course here reflects that same unpretentious character. This is public golf in one of the most naturally beautiful corners of the Northeast.
Municipal courses in small Adirondack towns tend to be community institutions as much as golf facilities, built to be played by locals and visitors alike rather than to impress anyone. An 18-hole, par-72 layout at this latitude means a relatively short warm-weather season, roughly late spring through early fall, and the terrain almost certainly borrows from the natural contours of the land rather than fighting them.
Expect modest greens fees, honest golf, and the kind of mountain scenery that makes a topped 5-iron easier to forgive. Schroon Lake itself is visible from parts of the surrounding area, and the Adirondack backdrop alone is worth the green fee.
