Few settings in Canadian golf match the sheer drama of Canmore's mountain backdrop. Sitting in the Bow Valley corridor just outside Banff National Park, the course plays against a wall of peaks — the Three Sisters, Ha Ling, and the Rundle range forming a panorama that makes it genuinely difficult to keep your eyes on the ball. This is the eastern gateway to the Rockies, where the Bow River cuts through, wildlife crossings are part of daily life, and the air at elevation carries a crispness that most golfers from the prairies or the coasts never forget.
Canmore Golf Club is one of Alberta's older mountain clubs, with roots in the town's coal-mining past — a community course that grew alongside the transformation of Canmore from an industrial outpost into one of the most sought-after outdoor destinations in the country. That history gives it a character that newer resort layouts rarely achieve.
Mountain golf here means elevation changes, firm turf when summer heat arrives, and the kind of conditions where distance judgments simply don't behave the way they do at sea level. A par-71 layout in this terrain plays nothing like a par-71 anywhere else.
