Hässlö Golf sits on Hässlön, a long, narrow island in Lake Mälaren just outside Västerås, giving the course one of the more distinctive settings in central Sweden. The layout follows the natural contours of the island, which means water comes into play not as a design flourish but as a genuine geographic fact — the lake is simply there, bordering holes and shaping decisions throughout the round. The terrain is relatively flat but the island's edges and prevailing winds off Mälaren give the course a quiet exposure that can make it play quite differently from one visit to the next.
Västerås itself is one of Sweden's oldest cities, with a strong local golf culture spread across several clubs in Västmanland. Hässlö occupies a particularly appealing slice of that landscape, and the ferry or bridge approach across the water gives arriving there a sense of occasion that purely inland courses rarely manage.
The club has a relaxed, community feel typical of Swedish parkland and island courses — serious enough for competitive members, accessible enough for visitors looking to enjoy good golf in a genuinely scenic lakeside setting.
