Bankeryd sits just north of Jönköping at the southern tip of Lake Vättern, one of Scandinavia's great inland lakes, and Sand Golf Club draws directly on that landscape. The course occupies sandy, heathland-style terrain — the "Sand" in the name is literal — which gives it a character quite distinct from the parkland layouts that dominate much of Swedish golf. Firm fairways, natural sandy scrub, and heather-like rough create conditions that reward creativity and ground-game thinking more than pure power.
Jönköping has a genuine golf culture, anchored partly by its role as host city to the Scandinavian Mixed and other European Tour events at nearby Husqvarna Golf Club, so visitors arrive with real expectations. Sand Golf Club sits at a quieter, more community-oriented end of the local scene — a members' club with a strong regional following rather than a tournament showpiece, valued for its natural feel and consistent playability through the long Scandinavian summer days.
The sandy subsoil that gives the club its name also delivers some of the best drainage in the region, meaning the course holds up well after rain and plays firm and fast in summer — conditions that tend to reward the patient, strategic golfer over the one simply reaching for driver.
