Few courses in the Barcelona metropolitan area carry as much history as Club de Golf Vallromanes. Founded in 1972, it occupies a valley in the Maresme foothills roughly 25 kilometers northeast of the city, in the small municipality of Vallromanes in the Vallès Oriental comarca. The layout was designed by the Spanish architect Folco Nardi, whose work leaned on the natural contours of the Mediterranean scrubland terrain — stone pines, wild rosemary, and the occasional dry-stone wall frame virtually every hole, giving the course a distinctly Catalan rural character that feels removed from the urban sprawl nearby.
The design rewards intelligent positioning off the tee. The valley setting means elevation changes are genuine rather than decorative, and the prevailing breezes that funnel through the hills add a layer of difficulty that the scorecard alone won't warn you about. Several par 4s demand careful club selection into small, well-guarded greens.
Vallromanes has long served as a serious members' club for Barcelona's golfing community, with a mature, unhurried atmosphere that reflects its 5 decades of continuous play. The climate is typically Mediterranean — dry, warm summers and mild winters — making it a genuinely year-round venue.
