Scott Air Force Base sits in the Metro East region of Illinois, just across the Mississippi River from St. Louis. The base is one of the most storied in the U.S. Air Force — home to Air Mobility Command — and like many major military installations it maintains a golf course as part of its Morale, Welfare, and Recreation program. Cardinal Creek serves that community: active-duty personnel, retirees, Department of Defense civilians, and their families. That mission shapes the culture of the place in ways a typical public or private club simply doesn't replicate.
The broader landscape here is classic Midwestern bottomland transitioning to rolling upland — the kind of terrain that tends to reward straightforward, honest golf rather than dramatic elevation drama. The St. Louis metro region has a surprisingly rich golf culture, with a range of respected layouts on both the Missouri and Illinois sides of the river, and Cardinal Creek fits naturally into that regional fabric.
As a military MWR course, expect an accessible, unpretentious atmosphere where the emphasis is on the game itself. A par 72 layout at this scale gives players the full traditional round — a genuine 18-hole test without the frills of a resort destination, aimed squarely at golfers who just want to play.
