Few corners of Michigan golf carry the weight of history that surrounds Petoskey Bay View Country Club. The club is rooted in the Bay View community, one of the oldest Chautauqua assemblies in the United States, a Victorian-era retreat established in 1875 on the shores of Little Traverse Bay. That heritage gives the club a character distinct from almost any other private course in the Midwest — membership here has long been tied to a summer colony culture that predates most American golf entirely.
Little Traverse Bay and the Petoskey area represent some of the finest golf country in the northern Lower Peninsula, a region that draws serious players from across the Midwest each summer. The landscape is defined by glacially sculpted terrain, hardwood forests, and the cooling presence of Lake Michigan, which moderates the climate and extends the playing season well into autumn.
As a private members' club in this setting, Bay View rewards those with access to an experience inseparable from its surroundings — a course where the sense of place does as much work as the routing itself.
