Motala GK sits along the shores of Lake Vättern, one of Sweden's great inland seas, whose sheer scale — it stretches nearly 130 kilometers from north to south — gives the club a dramatic backdrop that few inland courses anywhere can match. The course occupies a stretch of classic Swedish lakeside terrain: mixed forest, gentle elevation changes, and the kind of clear northern light that makes late-summer evening rounds feel almost surreal. Vättern is notorious for its moods, and the wind that whips off the water can transform the same holes from benign to biting within hours.
Östergötland has a long and respected golf tradition, and Motala fits comfortably within it as a well-established club serving a mid-sized Swedish town with a serious sporting culture. Motala itself sits at the point where the Göta Canal meets Vättern, giving the town an unhurried, maritime character that carries over to the atmosphere at the club.
This is members' golf in the Swedish tradition — sociable, unpretentious, and deeply rooted in its landscape. Visitors are welcomed, and the combination of genuine lakeside scenery and honest, unshowy course design makes it a natural stop for anyone touring this quietly rewarding corner of Sweden.
