Tipsinah Mounds takes its name from the Dakota word for the wild turnip, a plant that once grew abundantly across this part of western Minnesota's prairie — a small reminder that the land here carries a history far older than the game played on it. Elbow Lake sits in Grant County, a quiet stretch of lakes-and-farmland country where the horizon opens wide and the sky feels like half the landscape. The name also nods to the glacial mounds that shape the terrain, giving this corner of the prairie more topographical interest than its surroundings might suggest.
That rolling, mound-dotted land translates directly into the character of the course. Rather than the flat geometry common to many prairie-town layouts, Tipsinah Mounds works with genuine elevation changes, which creates variety in lies, angles, and shot-making demands that you wouldn't necessarily expect out here at par 70.
As the community course for a small Grant County seat, this is golf at its most unpretentious — affordable, walkable, and woven into local life. It's the kind of place where regulars know every bounce and first-timers leave pleasantly surprised.
