Redhawk has been one of Temecula's marquee public tracks since it opened in 1991, designed by Ron Fream of Golfplan — the same firm behind courses on 6 continents. Fream routed the layout across the rolling chaparral terrain that defines this part of Riverside County, and the course earned a reputation as one of the Inland Empire's more demanding public tests, with elevation changes and native scrub adding both visual drama and genuine strategic consequence to wayward shots.
Temecula itself sits at roughly 1,000 feet of elevation in a wine country valley between Los Angeles and San Diego, and Redhawk reflects that landscape honestly — dry summers, mild winters, and the kind of wide-open Southern California sky that makes the course feel bigger than its boundaries. The Santa Rosa Mountains loom in the distance on clear days, providing a backdrop that resort courses charge a premium for.
For public-access golf in the region, Redhawk occupies a middle ground between the area's wine-country resort experiences and the more utilitarian daily-fee tracks — a legitimate course that rewards repeat play and punishes complacency.
