Kimberley Golf Club

Few cities in South Africa carry as dramatic a backstory as Kimberley. The diamond rush of the 1870s transformed this remote Karoo outpost into one of the wealthiest — and most chaotic — places on earth almost overnight, and the Kimberley Golf Club emerged from that same era of colonial ambition and sudden prosperity. It is one of the oldest golf clubs in South Africa, with roots stretching back to the late 19th century, when miners and merchants sought recreation amid the dust and heat of the diggings.

The course sits in the Northern Cape's flat, semi-arid landscape, where the light is fierce, the air is dry, and the wind can rewrite your scorecard without warning. Karoo conditions mean firm, fast fairways and a spare, unforgiving beauty — very different from the lush parkland tracks of Gauteng or the Cape.
