Sault Country Club occupies a distinctive position in the Upper Peninsula golf landscape — a private members' club serving one of the more remote but historically rich cities in the Great Lakes region. Sault Ste. Marie sits at the St. Marys River, where Michigan and Ontario face each other across the famous Soo Locks, one of the busiest shipping canals in the world. Golf here carries the character of a tight-knit northern community where membership means something beyond tee times.
The Upper Peninsula's short season sharpens the experience. Summers are crisp and clear, the light long and golden in the evenings, with mature hardwoods and conifers typical of the region framing fairways that tend to reward local knowledge over raw power. The climate produces firm, fast conditions by midsummer after a slow spring thaw.
For members, Sault Country Club is less a destination than a home course in the truest sense — a place where generations of local families have played, competed, and kept golf alive at the northern edge of the Midwest.
