The International

Few courses in New England carry the pedigree of The International, a private club in Bolton, Massachusetts that ranks among the most celebrated layouts in the region. The club's Pines Course — designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and opened in 1957 — is one of his most ambitious works, a sprawling, demanding test built across rugged central Massachusetts terrain that once made it the longest course in the world by total yardage. That audacious scale was very much intentional: Jones designed it to challenge the best players on earth, not just the weekend member.

Bolton sits in the wooded hill country of Middlesex County, roughly an hour west of Boston, where the land rolls and tumbles with genuine force.
