Killinard sits in County Laois — Ireland's only landlocked midlands county — and The Heritage Golf Club is one of the region's most ambitious golf developments. The course was designed by Seve Ballesteros, the Spanish legend whose feel for dramatic, strategic design translated naturally to the Irish midlands landscape. It opened in the mid-2000s as part of a broader resort and residential development, and it earned early recognition on Irish course rankings, drawing players who might otherwise head straight for the coastal links.
The layout plays across gently rolling farmland punctuated by water features and mature plantings, giving it a parkland character that rewards precise ball-striking and thoughtful course management. Without ocean winds to dictate the challenge, Ballesteros leaned on framing, bunkering, and water to create pressure — the kind of course where you can always see trouble coming, but avoiding it is another matter entirely.
County Laois is off the typical tourist circuit, but that's part of the appeal. The surrounding countryside is quiet and green, and The Heritage stands as genuine evidence that world-class design doesn't require a coastline.
