Seven Oaks Golf Club

Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and opened in 1962, Seven Oaks is the on-campus course of Colgate University — one of the more distinctive arrangements in American college golf. Jones shaped the layout across the rolling hills of Madison County, and the result is a course that has aged into something genuinely respected: Golf Digest has ranked it among the best campus courses in the country, and it plays with the kind of strategic demand you'd expect from one of the 20th century's most prolific architects.

Hamilton sits in the Chenango Valley of central New York, a region of hardwood forests, farmland, and terrain that shifts and folds in ways that keep golf interesting. The course reflects all of that — elevation changes are real, sightlines aren't always honest, and the tree cover that gives the club its name frames holes throughout.

While Colgate students and staff form its primary membership, Seven Oaks is open to the public, which makes it an accessible find in a part of upstate New York where quality golf of this pedigree is genuinely uncommon.
