Luke Air Force Base sits in the Sonoran Desert west of Phoenix, home to one of the largest and busiest fighter pilot training wings in the world — and to a golf course that serves the men and women who fly and support those missions. Falcon Dunes is a private facility reserved for military personnel, their families, and authorized guests, giving it the feel of a true community course where the membership shares something larger than a handicap index.
The West Valley desert landscape defines the experience here. Expect the wide skies, volcanic mountain silhouettes, and scrubby desert vegetation typical of the greater Phoenix area, with afternoon heat that makes early tee times non-negotiable from late spring through summer. The routing almost certainly works with and against the flat alluvial terrain in the way that characterizes so many Arizona military courses.
At par 71, the layout plays a touch shorter than a conventional par 72 design, suggesting a course that rewards precision and course management over raw power — well-suited to a membership that tends to squeeze in rounds between demanding schedules.
