Otterkill Country Club occupies a quiet corner of Orange County, about 60 miles northwest of Manhattan in the Hudson Valley foothills. This is classic upstate New York golf country — rolling, wooded terrain shaped by glacial history, with the kind of topography that rewards course designers and challenges players in equal measure. The surrounding area, anchored by the old hamlet of Campbell Hall, sits between the Shawangunk Ridge and the Hudson River, a region that has drawn city escapees for generations.
Private clubs in this part of New York tend to carry a strong sense of community identity — less about exclusivity for its own sake, more about members who genuinely know each other and the course intimately. After enough seasons, every bounce, every prevailing wind off the hills, every quirk of the greens becomes familiar ground.
Orange County's golf season runs a full arc from spring mud to autumn color, and the fall stretch here — when the hardwoods turn and the air sharpens — is among the better times to be on a course anywhere in the Northeast.
