South Jersey's Pine Barrens stretch for over a million acres across the state's midsection, and Egg Harbor City sits squarely within that singular landscape — one of the most underappreciated backdrops for golf anywhere on the East Coast. The flat, sandy terrain, cathedral pines, and scrub oak that define this region share obvious DNA with the great heathland and sandbelt courses abroad, and the soil drains almost supernaturally well, keeping rounds playable through conditions that would close courses elsewhere.
Vineyard National draws its name from the agricultural history of the area around Egg Harbor City, a town founded in the 1850s by German settlers who planted vineyards across the sandy soil. That heritage gives the course a distinctive identity within the South Jersey golf corridor, a region that has quietly built a strong collection of public and daily-fee tracks over the decades.
As a full 18-hole, par-72 layout, it offers the complete test expected of a regulation round — though in this corner of the Pines, the real reward is simply the environment itself, where the air smells of cedar and the trees close in tight enough to demand accuracy off the tee.
