Few golf courses anywhere in the world carry a name as evocative as this one. The Seve Ballesteros Golf Club — Izumi Course in Iwaki, Fukushima Prefecture — honors the legendary Spanish champion whose charisma and shot-making genius captivated Japanese golf fans during his many visits to the country in the 1980s and 1990s. Seve's connection to Japan ran deep, and courses bearing his name reflect an ambition to channel something of his flair and creativity into the design itself.
Iwaki sits on Fukushima's Pacific coast, a city that has shown remarkable resilience over the decades. The surrounding landscape is defined by the rugged Abukuma highlands meeting the coast, with a climate that brings genuine seasonal contrast — cherry blossoms in spring giving way to warm, humid summers and crisp autumn rounds ideal for scoring.
As one of 2 layouts at the facility, the Izumi Course offers members and visitors a dedicated playing experience within a full-service club environment — the kind of understated, well-maintained Japanese private golf that rewards regular visitors who learn its rhythms.
