Bucks Run Golf Club sits in the heart of Michigan's Lower Peninsula, about 60 miles north of Lansing in Mount Pleasant — a college town best known as home to Central Michigan University and, for many visitors, a convenient stopover point on the way to the northern reaches of the state. The surrounding landscape is classic mid-Michigan: gently rolling farmland giving way to mixed hardwood and pine forest, with the kind of seasonal swings that make autumn rounds genuinely spectacular and test golfers' patience in early spring.
Jerry Matthews, one of Michigan's most prolific course architects, designed Bucks Run, and his fingerprints are evident in a layout that works with natural terrain features rather than against them. The course earned a reputation as one of the stronger public-access options in the central part of the state, drawing players from across the region who want a genuine challenge without driving all the way to the resort corridors around Traverse City or Gaylord.
As a daily-fee facility, Bucks Run occupies an important role in its local golf community — a course serious enough to reward skilled players but approachable enough to keep a broad membership coming back through Michigan's relatively short season.
