Williams sits at nearly 7,000 feet on the Colorado Plateau, just a few miles from the southern rim of the Grand Canyon, and the golf here reflects that high-desert world completely. Ponderosa pines stand thick across the terrain, the air is thin and carries the ball noticeably farther than golfers accustomed to sea level expect, and the summers that make this corner of Arizona playable are genuinely cool by desert standards.
Elephant Rocks takes its name from the volcanic basalt formations that define the property — rounded, weathered boulders that cluster across the landscape like a herd caught mid-stride. They're not decorative. They come into play, they shape sightlines, and they give the course a geological personality that no amount of design budget can manufacture. This is a layout built around what was already there.
Williams is a Route 66 town, proud of it, and Elephant Rocks has the feel of a genuine community course — the kind of place where the clubhouse conversation is easy, the pace is unhurried, and the surrounding wilderness reminds you that you're playing golf at the edge of something much larger.
