Valle de Bravo sits about 2 hours west of Mexico City in the mountains of the Estado de México, perched above a large reservoir that draws weekend sailors, paragliders, and city escapees looking for cooler air and pine-forested slopes. The town itself is one of the most photographed in the country — cobblestone streets, whitewashed colonial buildings, a magic-town designation from the Mexican government — and the surrounding landscape carries the kind of dramatic elevation and natural texture that tends to translate well onto a golf course.
Izar occupies that highland terrain at roughly 5,800 to 6,000 feet of altitude, where the thin air adds distance to your drives and the mountain geography creates natural contours that course designers don't have to manufacture. A par-72 layout in this setting almost certainly plays with significant changes in elevation, framed by pines and volcanic rock formations characteristic of the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt.
